Scrappage Scheme, Electric Cars, New Cars Cork, Used Cars Galway

Scrappage scheme is available for only a few weeks more in Ireland. The Vehicle Registration Tax (VRT) relief up to €1500 is nearing the end. Quick and decisive action can still meet the deadline and get the new car or van, with the added pleasure of the government-sanctioned assistance. The time is ripe, as driving the new car into to the New Year, could be more than good coincidence. Dealers offer customized car finance packages, to suit the individual needs. The twin incentives make this, the best time to trade in the old car. The car may still be the much-loved one, but it may be getting more than a bit old.

Scrappage Scheme – Prompt For Cleaner Air

The new CO2 emission norms have been carefully formulated to make this planet, considerably cleaner. Scrappage scheme aims at encouraging people to shift to vehicles that confirm to the prescribed CO2 norms. For example, in Ireland, for passenger cars, the CO2 emission should be less that 141g/km. The special scheme provides a relief in the VRT, to make the new cars, that much more affordable. The reduction is available only under special conditions, some of which are; the car that is being scrapped must be at least 10 years old and registered in the name of the purchaser of the new car. Or, the purchaser could be named driver on the insurance of the old car, provided the spouse is the owner. The old car need not be roadworthy at the time of scrapping. The Authorised Treatment facility (ATF) or the car dealer can advice on the rules.

Car Finance –Power Of Driving Now

Car finance through the car dealer is an additional loan avenue. It keeps the regular banks and finance institutions free, enabling loan facilities for any other purposes. Financing through the car dealer, is convenient, because the executives will take care of all the paperwork and also tailor the scheme, as closely as possible to suit the individual needs.

Double the advantage – Scrappage and car finance

The twin advantages of the scrappage scheme and the season’s best car finance plans will enable purchase of high-end car, at very low down payments. Right time for the new car is now.

Nisaan Qashqai – Rugged Convenience

Nissan Qashqai is a car that is really an SUV. The handling is as easy as a car, but the stability and ruggedness are from the SUV series. The 2010 model with a distinctive top half and the sleek shoulder line, which lowers down the front, enables the vehicle to flow through the head winds. Several more uncommon features have driven Nissan Qashqai fast-ahead on the sales charts.
Choices Galore and the Nissan Qashqai
Seven engine variants, four in the petrol and three in the diesel version, offer an almost custom suit for every car owner. The electronic stability control, also abbreviated as ESP, is optional, but almost everyone chooses it as the standard package, for the excellent comfort and the safety factors. The life inside a car must after all be worth living. It should be plush and elegant, to highlight the elegant attitude.Nissan Qashqai concentrated cockpit design wraps around the driver. It creates fun, focused and a sporty feel for the driver. The passengers have a roomy, relaxed and airy atmosphere. The rear seat passengers have the enviable contentment of the first class citizens.
Competition to Note
The competition from the Nissan Note turns out to be a fun and a challenge when choosing the car. The Note is a car that has as many options, as the Qashqai. Since the two cars are upgraded frequently, the test drive and a solid discussion with the car dealer are essential, to discover all the features. Take the Tekna with the rear parking sensors, rear privacy glass, the sport leather steering and the six airbags, these are all the quality attributes, cascading from the other variants of Note range.
Easy way to get in
The number of luxuries and the safety features and the economics, in the two models, may well require spreadsheet analytics. Or a simple test drive in the first model out of the 20 odd colours and models at the car dealer, will decide it faster. As far as functionality and performance go, both the Nissan Note and Qashqai are efficient, reliable and deluxe.

Nissan to recall 7,000 cars in Ireland

Nissan will recall over two million vehicles globally for an ignition problem that may cause the engine to stop running. Up to 7,000 Irish cars could be affected.
A problem has been identified in a relay in the ignition system that could, at the worst, cause the car to stop. However, no accidents have been attributed to this potential fault and Nissan is recalling the cars as a precautionary measure.
The fix will be carried out on a list of cars made between 2003 and 2006. It will apply mainly to some Micra and Note drivers in Ireland, though in other markets it could include the Cube, Tiida saloon and Titan pick-up.
A spokesperson for Nissan Ireland, speaking to The Irish Times today said that there have been only a handful of incidents of the problem occurring and none of them affected the safety of the car. None of these occurred in Ireland.
Affected: Some Nissan Micra models from 2003-2006
“We are unsure of the exact number of cars with this issue here in Ireland, but we would stress that it is a very minor one and there have been no record of the fault in Ireland. We will be contacting Shannon (Department of the Environment) to find out exact numbers and from here we will contact customers. The fix will take 15 minutes and will be carried out free of charge to customers.”
Affected: Small numbers of the Nissan Note

This car has put a smile back on the face of Peugeot

As the company looks for a bigger slice of the family saloon market, Shane O'Donoghue tries out the new 508

The 508's cabin is impressive and builds on the step-up in perceived quality that Peugeot introduced in its 3008 and 5008 family cars. The new model's interior retains the soft-touch plastics and well-weighted switches, but adds to it a dash of style.

New instruments work particularly well, with a computer screen nestled between them; and the climate controls are much better than previous offerings from Peugeot.

The curving "hood" over the dials swoops across the entire width of the car, giving it a solid feel.

It was fitted with the head-up display, which works well enough by putting speed and other readouts more in the driver's line of sight.

This Allure specification includes an electric parking brake as standard. At the best of times I dislike using these, although someone must appreciate them, as they're becoming much more common.

Indeed, five adults can get comfortably into the 508. It's taken for granted that the front two will have plenty of space, but there's a noticeable surfeit of shoulder room, too.

The boot volume is comparable to the best in class, although access to it is hampered a fraction by the width of the rear lights. There's also a decently sized "secret" compartment underneath for valuables.

The Peugeot 508 turns out to be really good to drive. In town, it smooths over speed bumps and sharp potholes with ease, which leads you to expect that it'll change direction with about as much finesse as the Irish banking system.

Somewhat surprisingly, the Peugeot corners with little body roll, which makes it more comfortable for the passengers, but also much more fun for the driver.

It's remarkably composed and stable, too, which should be a boon if you ever have to stop or turn in an emergency.

All in all, it definitely warrants comparison with the class leaders on the driving front. Of course, most car buyers care little for such shenanigans. All you need to know is that it's comfortable, easy to drive and actually really refined, too -- meaning that the outside world is kept at bay most of the time.

All that's left to talk about is pricing. Peugeot will focus on 1.6- and 2.0-litre HDi diesels in 112- and 140bhp guises respectively.

The range comprises of Access, Active and Allure specifications, starting at €24,850 for the 1.6-litre Access. The top-spec saloon (pictured) costs €32,550. The 508 SW (estate to you and me) is available in Active trim only, at €28,800 or €30,600, depending on which engine you want.

That pricing really puts Peugeot's new saloon into contention. It backs it up with a comprehensive list of safety equipment as standard across the line-up. It's well worth the step up to the middle Active model, though, as that boasts a lot more standard features than the entry-level 508.

Most models are in Band B, though the Ecomatique version does slip into Band A for just €104 in annual road tax.

Unfortunately, you pay a premium for that, which may not quite offset the reduced tax and fuel consumption over the life of the car. It's worth getting the calculator out.

At least now it has the right face for the job.

Streetwars Car Show NJ

After a few weeks of Settling into New Jersey life it was about time to go and check out some of the local car scene at one of the first shows of the year, Street Wars 6.
The show was held at Stockton college in south NJ and it was great to see such a strong turn out especially since all proceeds were going to the Susan G. Komen foundation in aid of breast cancer. There was a massive variety of cars from old skool american muscle to lifted trucks but it was of course the JDM side of things and especially the drift metal on display that got my attention.
Steve Angerman had his S13 out with a revised engine set up for the 2011 season and I spent a lot of the afternoon chatting with him about the east coast drift scene, the ridiculous price of Japanese cars in the US and bike riding. Turns out Steve and his brother are both big motocross guys so I plan to stop by his place over the summer, check out their track and hopefully hit some jumps.
Spent more time wandering about than taking pictures but here’s a few of my favorite cars from the day.
De-spoilered bug eye WRX’s are awesome!
One of my all time favorites and top of my list to buy for a daily, 161 GS series.
